WHAT TO PACK for Summer Camp (Scout)

FORMS (Scouts sent to camp without a medical form and family Dr examination will be turned away from camp and will receive a call to retrieve their son from the camp facility)

1. Day of Arrival Daypack (school backpack) (just gear you need at arrival time)

  • brown bag lunch/Snacks (no meals until Dinner)

  • swim suit

  • towel

  • flip flops

  • Canteen

  • small flashlight

  • Sun Screen

  • Insect repellant

  • Class A uniform, hat, neckerchief, slide for troop photo

  • Medications & Medication Administration Permission form  (turn these into Unit Leader)

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS SHOULD BE PACKED IN A TRUNK DONE WEEKS IN ADVANCE OF CAMP

 

1. Trunk or large plastic box for Gear (size should fit under cot(usually no higher than 13" else it fits in the middle of the tent as a table)

  • Large Plastic bags for clean clothing storage

  • Clear plastic storage boxes for organization of items

  • Laundry Bag/old pillow case

  • Please be sure your Scout packs his own gear so he can find his things especially his flashlight when it gets dark...

  • Locks, give an extra key/combination to the Scoutmaster

2. Sleeping Gear

  • Sheets and blanket

  • sleeping bag  40F/Warm Weather bag

  • small pillow & case

  • NOTE: cots are provided by Summer Camp

  • Battery powered fan (optional)

  • Battery powered tent light

  • Flashlight, extra bulbs, and enough batteries to last the week

  • mosquito repellent (mosquito netting is optional)

  • Camping Merit Badge: bring a ground cloth and tent, and a small overnighter backpack

  • Wilderness Survival Merit Badge: bring ground cloth, sleeping bag, survival kit you make, small backpack to organize and carry your survival gear

3. Eating Gear

  • Camp provides all food at dining hall 3 meals a day, you will not need anything to eat

  • For possible special Campsite Treats Bring the following

  • Mess kit (Bowl, knife, fork, spoon)

  • Cup  (sierra cup or equivalent)

4. Clothing

  • Class A uniform for the dinning hall and upon arrival Troop photo.

  • Travel in Class A Uniform

  • Comfortable shoes (spray with waterproofing), extra shoes and extra dry socks

  • Troop T-shirts

  • Troop Hat

  • Swimsuit  (should be accessible when arriving at camp) 

  • NO OPEN TOED SANDALS OR SHOES. Lots of walking, bring good shoes and socks.

  • Pool Shoes are recommended for the Swimming pool and showers (only)

  • Weather appropriate clothing and a few extras

  • It is helpful to put Scout initials on clothing articles

  • small quantity of laundry soap/biodegradable soap (meal time accidents do happen)

  • wire coat hanger

  • Swimming Merit Badge: bring extra set of clothing for survival training: long pants belt, button down shirt, belt, socks shoes (they will get wet)..

  • Clothes line (50' 1/4" nylon rope)

4. Necessities

  • rain gear  (should be accessible when arriving at camp) 

  • canteen with water; sealed properly

  • materials and money required for classes

  • Boy Scout Handbook (store in freezer bag to keep from getting wet)

  • merit badge books for the merit badges to be worked on (store in freezer bag)

  • notebook, paper, and pencil

  • sunscreen and insect repellent (both should be clear or white, not colored or fragrant.)

  • eyeglasses & case/ tools to repair

  • lock back pocket knife (must earn toten' chip, use at picnic table with adult)

  • A small amount of cash; some classes have extra fees or craft supplies to be purchased during camp. Give Envelope with Scout name & amount, hand to the Scoutmaster.

  • Plastic storage bags to hold Scout Handbook or other papers you do not want to get wet.

     

5. Shower/Hygiene

  • soap (fragrance free)

  • 2 towel (one for showers and one for swimming)

  • rope for clothes line hanging towels to dry

  • wash cloth

  • sandals or flip flops (in shower area only)

  • toothbrush and toothpaste 

  • deodorant

  • fingernail clippers

  • comb

  • hygiene (other articles like dental brace bands, etc)

6. Optional

  • Playing cards, board games, chess, books for entertainment.

  • NO Electronics during summer camp

 

NOTE: Lost items are usually found by the same Scout, sometimes not until he unpacks from camp at home.

 

NOTE: Please avoid sending mail to your son during Summer Camp.  This is especially important for those who have little experience being away from home for an extended period.
